After School Book Club -
The After School Book Club for second through fifth graders, held in the Spring, meets once a month for three months. The Book Club allows students to have fun sharing ideas and themes about selected books in small group settings led by PTA volunteers.
After School Science -
Students can broaden their understanding of science through hands-on activities and experiments during after school science classes (offered to second graders thru fifth graders). There is a fee for attending as these monthly programs brought to Thornton Creek by Mad About Science.
Art Appreciation -
Parent volunteers present various art genres by grade level to classrooms. Each class has four 1/2 hour presentations held during the months of January to May.
Art Night -
Students are invited to attend Art Night to create an original piece of artwork that can be transformed into a personalized gift or keepsake.
Birthday Lunches -
This donation based program allows Gators to celebrate their birthday during their lunch period at a special table in the cafeteria. Funds raised from Birthday Lunches this year will help support a new outdoor features at Thornton Creek.
Birthday Recognition/Birthday Bulletin Board -
Each month, student birthdays are recognized on a specially designed bulletin board created by PTA volunteers.
Book Fair -
The Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fairs are held in the Media Center during conference weeks. PTA volunteers assist Media Center staff with running the Book Fair. All book fair sales help the Media Center to earn profits used to purchase new books.
Breakfast With A Buddy -
Students are invited to bring a buddy (mom, dad or grandparent) to enjoy donuts and juice before school.
Box Tops -
This Committee coordinates the collection and submittal of Box Tops for Education, which are great ways to earn free arts, academic and athletic merchandise and free money for our school.
Credit Union -
PTA volunteers assist the Community Financial Credit Union representative and Thornton Creek fourth grade students in operating the school Credit Union.
Emergency Red Bags -
Emergency bags are put together each year with supplies for each classroom to use in case of an emergency.
Fall Fundraiser -
Our annual Fall fundraising campaign helps fund the many supplemental educational programs that the PTA is able to offer at Thornton Creek. In addition, donations to the Fall Fundraiser also are used to fund PTA grants for curriculum materials and licenses, musical equipment, supplies for the art curriculum and much more.
Field Trip Liasion -
The Field Trip Liason helps teachers with field trip arrangements and coordinating use of PTA funds budgeted for field trips.
Fifth Grade Graduation -
The Fifth Grade Graduation Committee plans and organizes a send off celebration for our graduating students.
Gator Gala -
Games, prizes, food at the Gator Cafe, raffle drawings, auction items = one can't miss evening of fun! Our annual carnival is a much anticipated event for Gators and is only possible with the time, talents and dedication of the Gator Gala Committee and support from all Thornton Creek families.
Gator Gazette -
The weekly Gazette Lite and monthly Gator Gazette newsletters keep Thornton Creek families informed about PTA activities and events and school news.
Junior Enrichment Series (JES) -
The PTA spends $12,000+ each year on various educational enrichment programs. In addition to all school assemblies, each grade has about five programs throughout the school year which correlate to the curriculum or theme being taught.
Kindergarten Round Up -
The Kindergarten Round Up Committee provides refreshments for incoming Kindergarten parents and assists Kindergarten teachers and office staff with Round Up.
Legislative Action (LAN) -
LAN is a standing committee within the Northville Area Council of PTAs, Northville Public Schools. LAN’s goal is to protect the interests of our children's education in Lansing and Washington. The LAN committee accomplishes this by:
- Informing parents about important education issues 'percolating' at the state or federal level
- Mobilizing advocacy for issues impacting the quality of our children's education by making our voices be heard by our legislators.
Math and Science Night -
Held in February, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum brings interactive math and science activities to Thornton Creek for an evening of fun and exploration. This educational family night is fully sponsored by the PTA and is free to all Thornton Creek families.
Movie Nights -
Thanks to the efforts of our Movie Night Committee, the Thornton Creek cafeteria becomes a movie theater for families to enjoy a current feature presentation. Admission is free, concessions are available for purchase.
Parking Lot Safety Coordinator - volunteers needed, please contact us if you are interested
The Parking Lot Safety Coordinator schedules parents who volunteer for a safety post during morning drop off. Parent volunteers are needed to help ensure the safety of our students in the parking lot and to help maintain a smooth flow of traffic during this busy time.
Recess Volunteer Coordinator - volunteers needed, please contact us if you are interested
The Recess Volunteer Coordinator schedules parents who volunteer for a post during the lunch period. Mrs. Epler will hold an information session for parent volunteers to provide safety information and playground/lunch room procedures.
National PTA Reflections is America’s oldest and largest arts education program of its kind. The program was developed in 1969 by Colorado’s PTA President Mary Lou Anderson to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through film production, dance choreography, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. The 2013-2014 Reflections program theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire.”
Roller Skating Nights -
Five PTA roller skating nights are held each school year at BonaVenture Skating Center. The roller rink is reserved just for Gators to come out and join fellow Thornton Creek families for a fun filled evening of skating.
School Improvement -
Parent volunteers take part in School Improvement meetings along with the Principal and teacher representatives to discuss and implement School Improvement Goals.
School Supply Kits -
A PTA volunteer from Thornton Creek coordinates the school supply kit sales for our school. Funds raised are used by the Northville Co-Council of PTAs to support district wide PTA programs. School supply kits, designed with grade specific materials, are ordered in the late Spring and are available for pick up during the back to school walk through.
Sign Schedule -
A PTA volunteer updates the marquee sign in front of the school in a timely manner to keep parents/community informed of current events at the school.
Spirit Wear -
This ever popular attire for Gators is offered for sale annually. Every Friday is Spirit Wear Day so Gators have plenty of opportunities to show off their school spirit!
Student Directory -
Each year, the PTA puts together a Student Directory with contact info for classmates, teachers and staff, and PTA Chairpersons. All PTA members receive a free copy of the Student Directory,
Talent Show -
The annual Thornton Creek Talent Show is a popular venue for students to show off their many talents. Organized by PTA volunteers, the show is typically held in May before a school wide audience.
Teacher Appreciation -
Each year, we show Thornton Creek teachers and staff our appreciation with a Fall luncheon and a special themed Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
Volunteer Coordinator -
The Volunteer Coordinator posts volunteer sign up sheets for committees at the PTA Welcome Back Coffee and distributes committee volunteer lists to chairpersons.
The Yearbook Committee designs, creates and coordinates the sale of this memorable keepsake of the school year.
